Anyone here got a short shifter for an NB?

Where abouts did you get it and how much?
And what do you think of it?

And will it cause any damage? increase wear?

Will a 5 spd short shifter fit a 6spd car?

MX5parts is selling one http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/product_info. ... cts_id/556

Please note: The 6 speed lever will only fit cars prior to Chassis Number: NB18**214807 (approximately August '01). The 5 speed lever fits all models to date.

but it'd cost somewhere around $150-$200AU landed

I have a 10AE 6 speed in my car and bought a Simpson Design short shifter(about $180 landed).

Obviously there is a difference in later NB 6 speeds as Jim Simpson made it clear it was ONLY for an early 6speed.

It works well, makes the 6 speed feel much more precise.

6 speeders have two slots in the "ball" at the base of the lever,ie.two locating pins in the housing so a 5 speeder will fit a 6 speeder only if you make another slot.

I have the IL one in my SP, fitted by Dave from Mania, and it is fantastic!
Driving a standard one now feels like I'm rowing a boat.

Yup. That's the one boags organised.
Mine was the same but from a different vendor.
No idea what the third picture (the shaft with the hole) supposed to be though as it's not part of the short shifter for the MX-5.

Do these only fit an NA? I read on miata.net that the manual gear lever is not compatible with an NB ka-chow!

I've got an NB8A, keen on getting an economic short shifter.

The ones Boags and I organised are only designed for NA's. Haven't found any economic ones for NB's. It's ridiculous how much shops want for them. I've seen $200+!!
I've even seen one shop (that had a write up in the US Miata.net forum) that sells that standard shifter, but cut short, for $100.

Only problem is a shifter that is 'cut short' reduces the height of the actual gear knob, but doesn't necessarily reduce the 'throw' between the gears :(

that's what I mean!
What kind of a moron would pay good money for the exact same thing that he has standard, but cut a cm shorter AND doesn't work properly.
