Hmmm ... it's a nice thought that a 1.8 can produce that much HP@W, but going by something genuine, last I heard, the most powerful 1.6 Miata/MX-5 record was held by Steve Gosbee (recorded at a Newcastle event), pumpin out around 290+HP@W.
Flyin Miata's one is only a few HP behind.

I should convince les to whack a h00ge turbo on this car and see what she can make.

Don't listen to every thing you hear at autosalon
or read in magazines, they are not looking at the figures around the world just australia.

Yup, there's some high horsepower cars in Japan too.

I guess the other issue with dyno graphs there's no indication how reliable the engine becomes at that power figure.

I remember a guy in the states making great quarter mile times with a turbocharged 1.8 (with a stock bottom end). He blew a lot of motors but he didn't need reliability when the car would only go hard for short bursts.

Getting the best time was more important than blowing up an engine now and then.

I know of a stock internal 1.8, running a SP turbo manifold garett turbo and Motec that has 300 RWHP all day every day and is alwyas on boost - and it is still going but the 6sp needs a rebuild.....
