I, am embarassed to ask. But, I cant seem to get my gear knob off, having a replacement ready to fit.
I, am sure last time I changed it, it simply screwed off.
Did have new gearbox installed recently.
I, can get the knob to turn both clockwise and anticlockwise, but then it gets to a point where it aint going to budge.

Try pulling at the knob off the stalk while unscrewing? the thread may just not be biting properly

Also you can wrap the knob in something like a whole bunch of rubber bands? or those non slip kitchen doily thingies for a stronger grip

Righty tighty, lefty loosey.

But yeah if the threads not catching you may need to lift for it to catch on. I know my original gear know was a bitch to take off, it was on uber tight. Wrapped a towel around it for leverage and managed to get it to eventually twist.

Good luck.

Some aftermarket knobs have a small grub screw holding them on, which generally srews into the threaded area of the gear lever. They can turn part of the way on the thread. You might have a metal piece at the base of the knob which will unscrew to reveal the grub screw(s). Undo those and away you go...

Dont think my gear knob problem is a strength or leverage thing as I can get it to move both directions, but then it gets to a point were it wont move at all.
I, had it off before new gear box put in and had no dramas. I think NMX15 may be on the right track, re there being some type of lock nut that as been placed on the shaft after new gearbox installed.
If, none of your ideas work I am going to take it back to the guy who installed the gearbox and see what he can do.
Thanks for all the replies

Got the *$*$)# knob off. Problem was the black leather/vinyl casing of knob was swivelling on the white plastic thing attached to spline of gear stick.
Once i managed to pull off the outer knob, a towel and a pair of multi grips with a quick jerk unloosened the inner plastic thingamabob:)
Cheers to all.
