Air filter bits & pieces issue...

Well spent most of today sourcing more bits for the car & figured why not upgrade the air kit to something a little more throaty than the stock.

Got all the parts as recommended Aircleaner/filter, silicone tube but most important so it would all happen the air filter adaptor. Now it was one of them basic adaptors you grab from supercheap/autobarn a TFI racing product.

The model is a 9007 which is for the mx5 (non specific NA,NB...), even says on the packet. Bolts on no worries but leaves a gap on both the top & bottom larger than the grand canyon (ok maybe not thaaaat big). Now I've left the cork gasket on of course. But shouldn't this area be fully enclosed, I mean otherwise whats the point of the filter.

Now am I missing something here or is this just an example of a crap aftermarket product?

I'll pop a pick up when I can to show what I mean (can't find my cable from cam to pc  ).

Anyone got any ideas/suggestions?

....and no manga_blue I'm not going to run off and buy an SP,SE or change my plug leads :P

there are 2 adaptors avalible I picked the wrong one the first time even though it said mx5. the one you want has a square hole where it mounts to the AFM.

just take it back andget the right one dirty air is bad for your motor in the long term

But it could be your plug leads

Yes, that is very bodgy, do not fit it to your car like that. I have a similar one (autobarn) and it does not leave gaps like that.

*When was the last time you changed your fuel filter? Could be a dirty fuel issue.

of course, boags has seen another reason why fuel doesn't pass through the fuel filter

Well got another filter adaptor today took the other one back to autobarn and showed them the above pic. They thought that was really odd, especialy as model 9007 on the package states MX5.

So based on the pic we changed it over to a 9013 model which filled in the gap bit, but doesn't restrict the actual square. Odd thing is the 9013 is for some holden models (shudder).

Now all I've got to do is wack up some sort of mounting device to keep the whole thing in place. 8)

this part is actually for tx3/camry etc
we make alot of these at work and wouldn't be supprised if its one the ones from here that a guy makes, but yeah definatly not for the mx.
