well that greddy turbo kit is of no use to you. it is for the 1.6 engine. the greddy stuff is pretty crap anyway.
the jackson kit... do they still actually sell those at mania? the FF kit seems to be a lot better, no? mania have experience with both.
also remember supercharger vs turbocharger... turbo will give you more power for less money. but some people say they prefer the drivability / response of a supercharger... altho these days with faster spooling ball bearing turbos i reckon that issue with turbos is pretty much solved.
just get the avo stage 1 kit. you can do it for about 5 or 6 thousand, fully installed. or just buy the kit and fit it yourself.

With $5K to spend I think the answer is obvious.
Sell your MX-5 and but a SP or a SE.
Do the sums.
You can unload your '04 for about $24 -25K. There's an SP in Carsales - asking price $27K and you'll get it for $25.5K or buy one of the many SEs going for around $27 -28K. And they’re all compliant with no hassles later on.

Quoted so you would read it again.
I'm not sure how you go about getting modifications legal in NT, but if it's a drama then best to go with AVO or someone with a pre-approved kit.
THIS stuff is usually pretty good for the price too. It might be worth having a look and asking some questions there.
Although DIY is VERY fun and also very rewarding, it ends up costing more than you'd think and taking a lot of time. If you want to go the DIY road you could make your $5k go a lot further.
Check out
www.miataturbo.net for some ideas on DIY.
Personally on an NB I'd love a supercharger...

But that's just me.

The most logical/ sensible way of spending your $5K is what CB said.
I would spend the money of good Coilover, Full Exhaust System, CAI, tuning and a set of good wheels and tyres. Now you have a great MX5 that you will enjoy more than SP/SE...even though its not as fast.
But if you still wanting to go Forced Induction way, then do what CB said.

I don't think there are that many SEs or SPs running around up Far North. There's only one beat up SE in Cairns. Darwin could be worse.

why not full exhaust system - intake and cams. you should get about 180hp at the engine doing that or maybe even more. atleast then if you go supercharger you will only be replacing the intake and you can sell that anyway. with the money left over you could probably get a really good set of tyres. depends on your priorities though. all ideas above are good from people who have done it before. For NT i would stay well away from non intercooler FI and the car would probably like a supercharger better the turbo - turbo would equal too much heat if the rest of the car is not designed for it. hence the solid argument of getting an se - even an interstate buy would be a good idea.

Is this correct? Thats about 134 kw. Would that be at the wheels?

nothing was changed I was told the Redcliffe dyno was crappy so i took her to the Dyno Day at Mercury
This is my complete Stock NB8A

What do you reckon you'd get with exhaust, pod and cams?

No, not at the wheels.

With the mods you mentioned and an aftermarket computer to take advantage of them, Rodd's car went fom 78rwkw to 96rwkw on the same dyno.
18 extra rwkw on a car with a base of 107kw would be a handy increase.
