Another option for Master Cylinder replacement

So, as per another post I need to replace/rebuild my brake master cylinder as it was leaking. I bought a 2nd hand master cylinder from another forum member with the idea being that I would have that one rebuilt and then do a quick swap over of the one in the car, thus reducing down time.

Took the 2nd cylinder into a workshop near work this morning. They called me a little later and said they had another option for me.

They could get me a brand new aftermarket unit for $75 more than rebuilding the 2nd hand unit. The rebuild was going to be $225 and the new unit is $300. A new unit from Mazda was $568. :shock:

The aftermaket unit is made in Japan by Seiken Chemical Industry co.,ltd.
The part numbers on the box are;
SM-Z572
Mazda - N001-43-400B
IBS JB1819

The new part looks identical to the Mazda part.

Just thought I would share this in case someone here needed to replace their brake master cylinder and wanted another option.

How much rebuilding needs to be done? I replaced the seals in my NA master cylinder for a lot less than that! :shock: The bore was OK so it only needed a new set of seals.

WOW! A stainless sleeve and new rubbers should be way less than $200 I would have thought?

Have you tried some other places? there is a place up here called BHSS i think it stands for Brake Honeing and Sleeving Service, or even a place in Gympie called Gympie Brake and Sleeve.
