please help yet again (silicone hose help)

Postby Ajay » Mon Oct 01, 2007 8:11 pm

ok everyone i am buying a complete hose silicone hose kit from overseas.. now i need to determine which is for my car..

here is what Val from MX5Parts sent me .. but i am NOT mechanically minded as most of you know from my constant and quite annoying questions..

Quote from MX5parts. \"To be sure, check your crank pulley, 4 slots and you need very early hose kit... 8 slots, you need >94 hose kit..\"

These are the 2 sets in question..
Silicone Water Hose Set Mk1 1.6 >94
Silicone Water Hose Set Mk1 1.6 Very Early

my car is a December 91 model.. now what i need to know.. is where is my crank pulley?.. and what slots do they mean? or does anyone know which hose set i need to be quite frank!.. lol :D

thanks for your help in advance

Kind Regards
Ajay

Photos here.

It's the big pulley at the front of your engine that all the drive belts (alternator, power steer, aircon) run off.

Crank pulley is the big round pulley on the bottom front of the engine, it spins and runs teh belts for water pump, air con and power steering. 4 slots means you have a shot nose crank (early 1.6).
When results speak for themselves - don't interrupt.

ahh i see.. well after doing some reasearch it seems that my Malibu does not have the short nose crank.. aparently it was changed over Mid 91.. which means my car (manufacured 12/91) will use the >94 hose set :)

I'd ask for a second opinion on that. I was sure all 1.6 have the same hoses and all 1.8 have the other... I could well be wrong though.

MX5Parts are saying that Long nose 1.6s take the same hose kit as the 1.8. AFAIK that is incorrect.

Remember that in the UK the 1.6 motor was available alongside the 1.8 after 1994.

This seems to be what is confusing matters.

The MX5Parts.co.uk kit called \"Silicone Water Hose Set Mk1 1.6 >94\" states:

Kit of 9 Water Hoses
Fits all Mk1 1.6 from chassis number 124202 (early 1990) up to 1994

Surely this is the one you want.

Ajay, what are they charging for shipping? a full set of 9 hoses seem like a good idea.

114.15? I thought the listed price for the kit (9 hoses) are 116 + shipping, so some savings for group buy?

no when you create an account and say your from AUS it minuses VAT (there tax in UK) which is quite a lot..

make an account and then all the prices update to cost without VAT..

all this time you probably thought there stuff was expensive :)
