Is this just for general maintenance purposes, or do you have an issue you are tyring to resolve?

For general maintenance try here ==>> http://www.miata.net/garage/ignition.html

Step 2: turn ignition key until engine running.

Step 3: Check tacho.

If you want to adjust the idle, you need to bridge TEN and GND in the diagnostic box (in the engine bay - passenger side - says 'DIAGNOSIS') and then use the idle adjustment screw on the throttle body (its under the little black cap on top). Once adjusted to around 900rpm, unplug the jumper between TEN and GND and let the ECU do its job.

The site you gave Juffa says to connect to the IG Terminal. For my external tacho, do i connect the red to the aux power and the black to the IG terminal?

Not sure you can hook an external tacho up as I think the MX-5 ECU output signal is of a nn-standard type?
Suggest you try a seach on the miata.net forum.

You've been told, you just don't like the answer. You don't need an external tacho and you would need a special type. Use the car's tacho. You can actually do it by ear.

Being smarmy will get you no help at all pal.

Every single MX5 has a tacho in-build so not many (if anyone) would have put an external one on. You want to put an external one on for some stupid reason, even though it's not needed. They have given you answers to the best of their knowledge and also given you details of another forum you could try searching on.

snoopdog wrote:Im doing a maintenance on my car and my idle is out..simple. how do i connect my external tacho(which i use for my scheduled maintenances).
If you want to do adjust your idle, they've already given you the answer. Read the posts

Unless your standard tacho is broken, there would be absolutely no need to hook up an external one unless you're just ricing up your car.

And you probably just blew any hope of getting more help on this issue.

Actually - I think I told you exactly what to do.

The best way to check your spark though is to grab the lead, and touch the car.

So your sum contribution to the Forum is 3 questions (all addressed, answered and appropriate links posted), and 3 insults.

Good start buddy. You know you are not paying for the service, don't you?

Have a look at this around the use of an external tacho. I assume the benfit of the external tacho is that you can see the change in ravs while making the adjustments under the hood.
