Anyone installed one of these on their car??

If so, are you happy, please describe the result in power and driveability.

yes
yes
cant wipe the smile of my face
makes you go weak at the knees everytime you ring its neck!

sadly i don't get to drive it enough but its reasonable, power delivery is good its not like a big hp turbo setup its designed quite well

great bit of gear for the money

Note: i didn't get the full kit I only bought turbo/manifold/dump pipe and all the water/oil lines
I had sourced all the other stuff myself.

Does it effect the fuel economy when cruising?

That just depends on how heavy your right foot is and how you drive,
temptation to get to the speed limit quicker steps in though!

realisticly i cant answer as I have never really done a big run with it to work out just how much fuel it does chew

I was averaging 300-350 before turbo so probably marginally less than that again.

I've just done three full tanks, measuring fuel consumption with a mix of driving - highway, cruise, easy around town, and Phwoar Ptschhhhh  , and I'm getting a fairly consistent 330-340km per full tank which is about the same as I was getting preturbo.

The beauty of the turbo is you don't have to wring it's nuts off to get the same level of power, so around town I tend to use less right foot for the same speed outcome (and a little more right foot to teach the Bommofalcodore boys a lesson when needed    )

I am getting better fuel consumption when cruising around town, and not in boost. I used to average 360km per tank in my NA. Before installing the turbo I had installed the FM/Link ECU. After doing this the fuel consumption improved and I was getting around 410-420Km per tank. I put this down to a more lean Air/Fuel ratio when compared to a standard MX-5. Since installing the turbo I have found that on average I am still getting better consumption, but as pointed out by others, it all depends on how much I sink the boot into the go fast pedal. I am also running 98 octane fuel since installing the turbo.

my avo kit is a \"stage 1\" i think, but i did not bother installing the 5th injector or the piggyback computer supplied with the kit. i think there are better alternatives that are relatively cheap. for example, currently i'm running a jaycar dfa for fueling, soon to be replaced by a megasquirt.

the actual avo hardware tho, i am very happy with. to describe the results in power - well there is about 50% more power, so that is a nice thing. i already want more, but all i have to do is replace the diff, reaplce the clutch, replace the brakes, turn up the boost a bit, and retune, and that will solve that. easy huh ?
in driveabality - there is some turbo lag which took some getting used to, but once you learn how to drive around it, it is very smooth. you just gotta keep the revs up to it and it runs great. drivability should be improved a lot when the megasquirt gets fitted too, as that can look after my timimg so that the car is not so sluggish off boost, as it is now.

fatty, how come you don't have the extra injector? I was told the stage 1 kit had a SMT6 piggy back controlling an extra injector, with the choice of a GT25 or GT28 turbo both with internal wastegate, and no blow off valve. Kit also comes with AVO manifold and intercooler.

well, this is what I have been told. Currenty considering it, if I can get it RTA passed and legal.

Must say AVO have been excellent to date with providing info.

i don't have an extra injector becuase i chose to replace my standard injectors with rx7 460cc injectors. i did this because i already had the jaycar dfa fuel piggy back fitted to the car, and thought it was a more robust solution than using the a 5th injector . a 5th injector just does not seem optimal to me, but hey avo have been doing it for years ans i guess they know what they are on about. but, their stage 2 and 3 kits replace the standard injectors instead of using a 5th, so i guess even they think that this is a better solution in the long run.

So fatty, did you go the GT25 or GT28?

Do you mind telling us what rwkw you got?

i didn't have a choice in the matter as my kit was second hand, but it came with a t25. one of the older ones, not a ball bearing one. it is a pretty old kit i think.

only running 7 pounds of boost at the moment, getting 98 rwkw. there is more available but i would like to upgrade the driveline a bit before i go chasing big power. we tuned it very conservatively for the time being.

Well I may or may not be doing a kit, just will wait and see what the vehicle standards guys say about my application. If I have to go through full emissions testing, I'm not sure whether you can \"tune\" results to keep the nasty gases below the targets. any ideas?

ask avo i guess? the rules vary from state to state, so i can't really help you.
