Has anyone purchased and installed a N*Power Header?

Postby sliq » Fri Jun 15, 2007 9:45 am

As the title suggests, has anyone purchased and installed the NB8B N*Power Header? (from the sponsor at the top of their screen incase you were wondering why N*power sounded familiar :P ) I just wanted to get some auscar-talk feedback before buying and fitting it - wanted to get a firsthand feedback of its results.

Also, I'm looking at buying the mazdaspeed/SE muffler but wasn't sure what the 'significant' difference between the stock NB and SE was. Can anyone shed light on this?

Thanks guy, muchly appreciated

Mike

MIke,

From general experience we know that a turbo doesnt make a good note with a muffler suitable for an naturally aspirated car on the rear.

Johnd's 1.6 BBR Turbo never had a note,in fact following him was disconcerting as all you heard was road noise.

We cut the muffler off and used a reasonator and it is nice, not too loud.

This is a roundabout way of saying that I don't think an SE (Turbo) muffler would be any good on an NA car,or that hopefully someone here can tell you if it works before you spend your hard earned!

the mufflers them selves dont vary much internaly NA to FI. just the internal Diameters..

for a NA 1.8 motor the best results seem to be made sticking to a 2.25\" system.

though afew (me included) run a 2.5\" high flow cat then step down to a 2.25\" resenator and muffler.

dont skip the rez either... things get a bit too noisey with only one muffler :P

All of this is true for an NA car but the same system on a turbo car will not make anywhere near the same noise(Eg Johnd's).

If Mike is thinking of using an SE (turbo) muffler he may find it very noisy on an naturally aspirated car.

Johnd's car has a very subtle note using only 2 small reasonators, we would have at least twice the muffling to get an NA anywhere similiar.

I'd need to do more research, but the SE muffler looks the same as my NB8A one.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.
