Hi all,

Just noticed a problem I'm having with my NA6 the other day. I was sitting stationary in traffic, and the car was overheating, found out that the radiator fan is not coming on. Any suggestions as to what the problem could be, or some quick checks before I take it to an auto electrician and pay a hefty bill. Thanks.

check to see if the fan is getting power.

on the right hand side of the car near your CAI
there is a little black box with a cover over it
it says \"DIAGNOSTIC\"

open it and look at the back of the case
it should have

GRN & TFT

you need to get a paperclip or wire or something of the sort to connect them together.

once u have done that the fan SHOULD come on.
if not your fan is farked!
if it does then you might have a problem with your temp. sensor which is ontop of the thermo housing.

I found the diagnostic box, opened it, i see the characters you mean, but i dont have a GRN or a TFT.

i assume GRN is ground, and TFT is thermal fan??

this what i do have from left to right, top to bottom,

(small sets of boxes, some black some white)

FEN, MEN, TEN, +B

GND

(then a bottom set of boxes)

FAB, IG-, GND, TFA, F/P, TAB


then below that its written NA01

Going but that and what i previously said, i assume GND is ground, and TFA is thermal fan?? If so there is two GND, does it matter which one i use.


Also, i noticed in the fuse box a 30a fuse for the thermal fan, could this also be stuffed?

Checked the fuse, looks ok, putting the wire into GND (tried both) and TFA as a guess, the fan didnt come on. Unless thats the wrong combination.

Thanks for the help, the fan didn't spin, so i guess its time to replace.

TEN isn't the fan, thats the one you jumper to set idle.

An easy way is to pull the plug off of the temp sensor on your thermostat and ground that ie stick a bit of wire into the plug and the other end on a suitible ground, while the car is on/running. The fan will come on. If it deosnt then your fan is stuffed. I'm using a supercheap auto fan but i think a second hand replacement from MX5 plus will be cheaper and much neater.

When linking those two (with the key on ON) - did you hear a click from a relay?
