Clunky 3rd gear....

I noticed that my gearshift for 3rd gear has become clunky these past few weeks. It's quite annoying as all the other gear actions are fine, except for the 2->3 shift and 4->3 shift. When shifting to 3rd you can hear a very noticeable metal gearshift sound that sounds like its coming from the gate and not the gearbox...ala Ferrari exposed gates if you know wat I mean. It sounded cool for a while but not anymore as it makes it very hard to do a smooth change
What are the remedies I should try?
Thanks as always guys

Are your upper and lower gear box seals still intact. Is there gear oil in the gearbox turret and if so is it reasonably fresh.
How is your clutch slave cyl. If worn it will leak fluid and makes smooth gear shifts difficult.
This is the easy stuff so check it first, if the above checks out ok then you may have to dig deeper.

Gearbox seals...haven't checked them yet will do so. Clutch master and slave cylinders are about 6 months old so I doubt thats the problem....gearbox turret oil....haven't checked that either. What's the volume/consistency of the oil I should be looking for? Turret oil not = gearbox oil....right?
Thanks

my 2nd is the same until the gearbox oil is warmed up.
when you check your lower seal thingy, maybe it's a good idea to unscrew the 3 bolts and check the turrent for oil. if it's empty, just fill it up.

When you pull it all apart also check that the plastic sleeve is still located on the bottom of the gearstick. If it's missing or sloppy it can affect gear changes.

Turret oil not = gearbox oil....right?
can anyone else confirm this? i just changed mine and did the turret with the gear oil i used for the gearbox. i cant see how it would differ.

The quoted statement is incorrect. Same oil goes in the turret as in the box.............in a 5 speed anyway.

turret oil is gearbox oil. half a cup/250mls should be sufficient to fill the turret (6 speeds should just use some grease). if it empties soon after then the seal that keeps turret oil seperate from the gearbox is broken so if you keep filling into it until the turret is full with a broken seal, then you've way overfilled the gearbox & much risk ruining it.
