Turret oil leaks straight through

So i changed my shift bush and went to fill up my turret oil but it leaked straight through and out the bottom of the gearbox.
I'm guessing this shouldn't be the case? ( I have a 93 1.6 )

after fair bit of research on miata net i found if it's a 6 speed it's normal but i gather it's not. a 5 speed isn't meant to do that, but if it does then it means the o-ring seal (6 speeds don't have it) that keeps the turret oil seperate from the gearbox is broken. too much trouble too replace the thing without disassembly so use grease in the turret instead like the 6 speeds do. marine grease supposedly works quite well.
i'm awaiting a new rubber lower shift boot to arrive before i refill my turret & see if that seal is still working.

no probs

a fair few 6 speeds have been ruined because of owners following the miata garage tutorial for the 5 speeds exactly (which doesn't state at all that the 6 speed needs to be done a bit differently) & way overfilling the gearbox.
