I had a similar thing happen to mine (NB8B 6 speed). It happened one day after I put the car in reverse, it just felt different going in. When I came back out of reverse the lever wouldn't come back to centre from the 5th/6th side, though it would still centre from the 1st/2nd side. It also feel like the lever was a little looser while in 5th and 6th gear, and like you say, it didn't need too much pressure to slip into the reverse gate.
Anyway, the car was booked in at Mania for a service later that week, so I got them to have a look at it. Turns out there was a small clip (not sure if it has a proper technical name) on the bottom of the gear lever that had flicked off. Daniel at Mania put it back on and it has been fine ever since.
Hope this helps
Ian
