ok so i've noticed before on my NA6 that when i launch hard (in straight line) the rear end swings a bit to the left while the wheels spin a bit before propelling me forwards, & with the very wet weather we're having recently here (much needed) it seems to be even more so. is it something wrong with my open diff?

Nope. It is typical of an open diff.

The directionality will always be the same, and that IS due to torque.

Diffs that can lock (LSD) do that so the power is applied in a more direct manner, ensuring that the dríven wheels have the same speed, reducing the torque effect.

Just had wheel alignment done on mine by Glen at Centreline. :D

On the test drive he said it was weaving at the back a bit under power and asked if there was a Torsen LSD there. The reason he asked was that RX7s with Mazda's Torsen used to do it a lot. (Same diff as the MX5? with more power).

are you sure your rear bushes arent shagged... could be the bushes flexing causing the rear arms to move around.

Same TYPE of diff. The torsen is bigger in the RX7 though. You can get torsens for the 1.6 diff too, somewhat like rocking horse proverbial though.

shouldn't be. the rear bushes were regreased sometime ago since they made a lot of sqeaking, the mechanic who diagnosed & did that didn't mention anything about that they should be replaced.

I thought the rx7 diff was the same as the 1.8L and the s2000 diff also, as per that driveline interchange guide which was posted way back. Couldn't be buggered trying to find the link.
