Both AFM and MAF work by having the voltage nominally vary between 0 and 5v.
Unfotunately, they vary in totally different directions. As the airflow increases, the voltage goes up with one, and decreases with the other. Basically you cannot simply change from one technology to the other. Conceptually it would be possible to interchange them, but mapping the differences will involve some work and aftermarket ECU (possibly a DFA as minimum).

adamjp is on the money there.
there is a simple voltage inverter circuit that you can build cheaply . but that doesn't take into account the temperature correction.
the afm has a temp sensor in it that sends the air temp to the ecu seperately to the air flow voltage. whereas the maf makes adjustments for air temp and sends a air flow / air temp corrected signal down 1 wire.
so not sure how you would get around that. because your maf voltage will vary depending on air temp, whereas the afm voltage does not. so the ecu would have trouble dealing with that i reckon.
but yeah if you can work out a way to do it, it'd be a good mod i reckon. and yeah, a dfa would be able to smooth out any bumps in the map easilly, once you figure out how to address the temp issue.
