Cheap CAI

For those using a standard air filter box, like me, here is a CIA which only cost me $3.00. This was for the 75mm downpipe pop now pop riveted to the fire wall. I managed to scrounge the hoses from a wrecker. The flexible bit is from an AE82 Corolla air intake hose that has been cut down. The other piece is also an intake hose, from a 6 cyl Camry. All I need to do now is buy a better filter and put it in the box.

The reason the CAI's go through that spot is to draw cool air from outside the engine bay. Temperatures under the hood climb rapidly so the engine is normally drawing hot air, which is less dense. Cooler air helps combustion. Dyno tests have shown an improvement in horsepower with this mod. Yes, I do notice a difference, even with the standard air box. Most others have used cone type filters which give better airflow.

guys, grumpy just popped over to give me his donation towards the beer4boags fund. i had a look at his DIY CAI in the flesh, and thought i'd bump this topic for anyone who didn't see it the first time around.
it really is a great idea, and i can't figure out why no-one else has thought of this before!! it can be done for spare change.

Check out Lowmiata's previous mods list - he did one in polished stainless as one of the first mods I ever remember him doing.....

Sorry to be a wet blanket, but you still appear to have that major restriction into the AFM. The 90 degree bend at the top just before it enters it.
You would be better ditching the airbox altogether IMHO.
