Hi guys,
Have just been on the Miata.net site reading the \"how to\" on changing the gear, diff and shifter oil. Are these procedures applicable to all MX5s? I will get my NB8P2 6 speed soon and would be interested to carry out these oil changes.
Any comments or tips will be most appreciated.
Cheers

ps. Have been lurking around this site for a while now. Have not posted since I \"lost\" our NA to my brother. who is now using as a daily driver. Had to re-register as my log-in has expired!!!

Should be the same for the 6 speed.
Tip: Make sure you can loosen the \"fill\" plug before you empty the gearbox or diff contents.

Yes this is very important..
Also make sure you get yourself a little oil pump bottle, its pretty impossible to do gearbox and diff without one..

With the NB models, they have no oil reservouir(sp?) in the top where the turret is. So instead of having to put the oil in via the bottom of the car, can can take the gear stick out and poor it straight down. It's easier to overfill it this way though.
Oh, and don't spill it inside the cabin, just ask Garry!

Thanks guys,
Sorry Bevan, don't quite understand. You said the NBs have no oil in the turret, you mean when you pull out the gear stick? You then said take out the gear stick and pour it in?
This oil pump bottle....is it the same as any soap dispensing bottle? Maybe I can use an old one, eh? Wash out first of course!

You can buy a little oil hand pump and bottle from Repco, cost around $10-$12. The pump part also screws direct onto some 1 litre oil containers - e.g. Penrite.

you try pumping 1-2 litres outta a little soap dispensing bottle. i think by the end of it you'll be wishing you bought the proper dispenser
