Has anyone done this? I am wondering if it is possible?

Would the NC engine fit? Is there much difference in weight.

Would it fit up well with the NA drive train...etc

would be an interesting engine swap!!

the biggest hurdle i can think of is that the exhaust maniflod in on the right on an na, but on the left on an nc. this would create some problems i think. plus the nc engine is a bit taller than the na , right ?

Would it be worth the trouble for the modest increase in power? If you are going to put a completely different engine in you would be better off going for something more powerful...

Not worth the effort, the NB8B engine is the way to go for bolt in simplicity!

According to Bob Hall, Mazda managed to shoehorn the NC engine into an NB during the development of the NC, but it was a very tight fit.

Lots of effort for not much gain in my opinion.

I like the idea of an RX-8 motor into an NA.

how could u justify that with such fuel consumption?

if you want to embark on an ambitious project like this mick, i'd suspect fuel economy wouldn't be high on the list of priorities

i think the idea of the 2.0 MZR in an NA would be an interesting one myself, a nice power & technology gain over both the 1.6 & the 1.8, just from doing the swap, plus, i'm assuming if that much trouble has been gone to, & the originality of the car is blown out the window anyway, it's a better base for some mods to see what CAN be got out of the understressed 2.0 litre engine, now, it's a fairly squizzy fit into the NC engine bay, but i reckon a fiddle with the plumbing dept, & toss away all the covers & crap that reside in the NC............plus, the battery is in the boot of the NA & not in the NC........it'd fit, there'd be engineering issues for sure, but no more than getting a rotary or a nissan donk hooked up & running.........if i was doing this, i'd be looking at getting the whole NC drivetrain in tho...............or at least the 6 speeder anyway..............nah, have to have the LSD as well  ................. jesus.....what am i saying???...............DAMN YOU YARNMX5!!!!................keep your ideas to yourself willya??? :?

*goes searching for a 4k NA*

i'm guessing the only reason you would be doing this is to get more power. of course, it's much simpler to turbo / super - charge your NA engine. BUT i guess you could get more power again by turbo / super - charging the NC engine. but then the NA engine was built on the foundation of a factory turbocharged engine (from the familia) so it already has strong internals. i'm not sure if this is the case with the NC. it could sh*t itself, who knows? anyway that's just my random , stream of conciousness, uninformed thought for the day

Worthwhile, though? Nope.

Mossy just posted a thread about getting 160rwkw on his 1.6L by turboing it... I'd go that route. 8)

yeah it would be a big job, but some of us in SA can't just turbo a car and get it made legal without heaps of drama, including an interstate emissions test. The easiest way is to put a factory turbo engine in which includes the ecu, intake exhaust etc... or alternatively buy an SP or SE....

Just need cash....30K for a SP or SE, or 5-10K for the alternative.
