Built a heat shield

Decided that i no longer wanted hot air induction so I built a heat shield on the weekend. Just made it out of .6mm aluminium. It actually works quite will. I am going to get some heat reflective stuff from clark rubber on the weekend.
I also built a little dry ice box under the filter. It worked ok and lasted about 30mins. It was really hot on saturday in brisbane and i would say that it went as good as it would on a cold evening (summer evening that is).
I think i am going to eventually get quad throttle bodies from injection perfection so I am not really going to bother doing much more with this intake.

thought i would throw in a pic of my extractors and tein strut tops.

Nice.
What did you use to fold the aluminium?

I like the idea of the double insulation between the headers!

yeah i thought that may have been the case but it seemed to work ok. Definitly would work better with a heat exchange unit feeding just cold air. Not really worth the time in r and d for a road going non turbo car.
I just bent it by hand. I bought a crappy stanley knife and scored where I wanted the folds and used a hard corner to bend to the desired angle. did a similar thing to make the cuts too. I made a template first then made a nice version.
Its pretty much to the bonnet but i will be putting rubber on the edge to make up the gap.

Boags and Gerard mentioned your shield recently, so I had to check it out. Very very nice.
Did you end up getting any heat reflective material? If so, what'd it set you back?

yeah i did, but it was crap from clark rubber and melted on a mt glorious run. I did however wrap the intake pipe with some other stuff. it was only about 20 bucks a square meter from the same place. will post a pic or two tomorrow.
