my car did this for a while. a new o2 sensor fixed it. it's strange tho coz the ecu works off the fuel maps (open loop) until the sensor is warmed up. but yeah, it fixed it.

but yeah the symptoms were similar to when i had faulty leads. but in that case, the problem did not go away when the car was warmed up. it stumbled under load regardless of if the car was hot or cold.

anyway , regardless , both of these items have a limited life and should be replaced every so often. so it could be either of them, or something else altogether, but replace them both anyway if you haven't done so in a while.

bending them out of the way may not have caused it. mx5 leads just tend to have a shorter life span, compared to some other cars.
