Time for a service on my NB8B = Dodgy Day?

Last night on the way to soccer training, she got introduced into the next generation revving out in second gear.

So within the next month or so, i'd love to give her a present and do a 100,000km service and a complete detail.

I plan on doing this in the driveway or lawn or at someone's house for a dodgy day... DID SOMEONE SAY DOGY DAY?!?!?! :lol:

I'll hit MX5Parts and see what sort of price i'm looking at in buying all this stuff.

Looking in this thread and this Miata.net page for the 2001 model service, I have the following list:

I think that's about it.

Some things that i'm a little confused about are these suggestions:

Can anyone shed any light on this list and make anymore suggestions on what else there is? Thanks all.

doing a similar thing this weekend at my place already

other MX5ers in adelaide are more than welcome to come along

If somehow I/we manage to get up on Saturday morning I'll be rewiring the speakers in my car. They keep cutting out from moisture and stuff.

If anyone plans to buy a head unit between now and then feel free to come over and install.

Or if you want to rewire your speakers and install new ones also feel free to come over. More hands can work faster to lay more cable quicker. I hope.

Sunday will be a car servicing day. If you feel like changin your spark plugs and oil, oil filter, air filter, and do a coolant flush come over then. Would help if you buy all the parts first.

I'll be doing all the above and a cam belt readjustment for my dyno tune.

So who's coming, I'll supply alcohol and Wii and soap.

Hey Bevan,

As a word of advice, get ALL this stuff from MXparts UK. It's much cheaper and the bits will arrive in no time.

As far as the other bits you have mentioned

Ooer... dodgy day in Sydney. I'm up for it. Hopefully I can learn better ways of pulling the car apart and putting it back together

Plus it'll be handy seeing this service done. Mine's on 95k now (although I've only put 8k on it

) so it'll be nice to see how it's done if I do it myself (and run another dodgy day

)

sounds like an ideal chance to try some timing and dodgy mod experiments..

can an NB8B run on pure octane bosoter????

can you shave the head with an angle grinder??

and if anyone can do some ecu remapping maybe we can see just how high the motor will rev

I don't think Bevan's tacho goes past 10000rpm.... :mrgreen:

Hey Bevan,

As far as the other bits you have mentioned

Idler pulley - is one of two pulleys that maintain tension on timing belt
tensioner pulley - is same as above, but a tensioned item (adjustable)
tensioner spring - is attached to above to create tension on the belt.
OCV Orings - not sure what this is.
OCV oil pipe washers - I assume this is the rubber "O" ring that goes on the water pump outlet pipe.

OCV oil pipe washers - look at the rear of the cam cover you will see where a oil pipe from the block joins the pipe running along the top of the cam cover.

OCV Orings - When the OCV unit at the front of the cam cover is removed there are two different sized Orings which need replacing. The gasket for this unit should probably be replaced as well (I didn't as I had forgotten this when ordering the parts.

I found MX5Parts.UK cheaper than buying from Mazda even at the Club discount but they don't have the Orings, washers or the NB8B cam cover gasket or cam seals.

I can send you the part numbers and prices if you can wait as I'm on holidays in Adelaide and won't be home until 5th Feb. Probably won't get back on the this site until then either.
