Just had this CAI combo installed in my NA8 Clubman by David yesterday (Wednesday 17 Jan 2007) at Mania
Advanced the timing from 10 to 14 as well, and then we took it to the Galston gorge for a test drive

That roar that echoed through the gorge! OMGWTFBBQ ...
And David's Autosalon-Circuit-Battle-winning driving style meant that I am always on the verge of $h!tting my pants
I am stumped and totally impressed by how much you can actually push this car ... and how fast it can go ... the potential is beyond me at the moment

And David still said that he could go muuuch faster ... 8)

IMHO, I think the CAI, enlarged air intake and advanced timing does give you more throttle response and torque thru to the mid range
That's good enough for me since I don't use the car beyond a daily ride at the moment
But that induction roar ... and the hissing sucking noise when it is stationary ... my God that was worth it

I'll try to get some pictures tonight of them
And maybe someone can point me as to where I can get cheap bonnet lift kit for the Miata?

How much did that set you back?

Nice one Andy! :) Glad that you're happy with the end result!

I've been considering similar mods too....but am still tossing up between getting a Mania CAI or making my own as I'm on a shoestring budget :P

How much was the enlarged intake? Is it the polished one?

Bought the kit (Cold air intake and enlarged air intake/tract) off the MX5 NSW Club 'Buy and Sell' page + Installation at Mania - $600

I am veeerrryyyy happy with the end result
Missus wasn't impressed at first (with the sucking/hissing sound coming from her side of the car (passenger seat)
But once she heard the induction roar and that little bit extra oomph down the highway, she was sold
Engine bay suddenly looks a bit more shiny as well (will have pictures soon)

Bought the enlarged intake and CAI together for $500
They are both the polished bling2 ones from Roehl at the NSW MX5 Club "Buy and Sell" page
One of the very first kits done by David too, apparently

A new set will cost you about $710 all up at Mania
You can install it yourself if you want to, but I am not the handiest person with tools ... especially the drilling bit in the firewall for the CAI

Mania CAI - $250
Mania Enlarged Intake System - $370
Installation - $45 each

As long as the missus is happy 8)

I'm wondering whether the difference will be noticeable having the CAI and a standard intake tract vs. the enlarged intake tract.

Anyone can offer any thoughts?

Yeah, I remember the first time I drove away from Mania with the CAI installed...

Car sounded like a BEAST 8)

Cool thing is that it sounds like a beast in the cabin, barely audible outside so you can have as much fun as you want and ppl won't know (kind of like the entire MX5 experience really).

I too am interested in finding out if there are any performance advantages to the enlarged intake as well.

Looking forward to the pics Andy

the enlarged intake vs standard intake trac has been discussed many times before. try doing a search such issues as heat soak came up throughout the discussion

Definitely a permanent ear-to-ear smile ...
I do know that the MX5 race cars have their intake tracts heat-wrapped (if they have one installed, but I ain't racing ... so it's all good
A bit of compromise between performance and aesthetics never hurt
