Exhaust Size?

My exhaust on the NA6 is just about stuffed so I'll probably look at gettin a new one done in the next couple of weeks after I get my brake master sleeved and a bit of paintwork done.

Just wanted to see what other people thought was a good size? I am going to get full mandrel bent with a hiflow cat and a straight throught glass pack muffler, was thinking about duels, but then the extra money and extra wieght :D

ATM it is just std with a set of extractors. I think it has been suggested that 2 1/4 is a good size? Would 2 1/2 be too large and not give enough back pressure?

I'd go 2inch, but go for the best cat on the market - Metal cat, that way you'll have the best flow possible with good scavenging effect.

I'll be upgrading to a metal cat in search of a few more ponies very soon!

I think they are a set size and come with a range of different reducer sizes attached. Not sure if 2 inch is available but i guess they could do it upon request?

2.25 is great for a N/A NA6. Also make sure you put in a hi-flow cat, and extractors if you will...the extractors won't add much power at all but at least they look a bit bling. The standard headers are hard to improve upon. 2.25 is what a few of us here use...2.5 to 3 inch for turbo'ed MX5s IMO.

Thanks guys, I'll scratch that down as 2.5=overkill, 2.25 should be good for higher rpm, and especially if I oneday find the dosh to get those cams and computer I want.

Duel tips would be really nice but then I think I would end up with not enough back pressure and also the worst thing, a droaning exhaust note because of the low speed flow through the mufflers.

Now I just gotta see how much moneys I have left after doing some of the work that actually NEEDS to be done and paying my rego :D

Where abouts in QLD do you live?

If you are in Brisbane go to The Exahust guy on the Stones corner round about as he does most of the mx5 race cars. He is good and cheap to boot.

Tell him Neil or Cal sent you and he should look after you on the price. :mrgreen:

I live in Hervey Bay, about 3 1/2 hours away. I will probably just buy the stuff i need, muffler, amndrel bends, cat and flanges through my work and take thm to one of the shops here to have it welded up.
