Standard gauges vs Aftermarket gauges

Postby JSE » Sat Dec 23, 2006 6:57 pm

I'm just researching into this topic a little bit to determine whether or not it is worth buying some aftermarket gauges. From what I hear from other MX5 drivers the Oil Pressure & Water Temp gauges as standard on the NA's arn't all that accurate - can anybody please confirm or object to this? If the standard gauges are a bit unaccurate I will be looking into getting a set of aftermarket gauges - Water Temp, Oil Press & Boost gauge (for when my car gets turbo'ed next year sometime).

So the question is: Are the standard gauges rubbish and inaccurate? Is it worth getting some aftermarket gauges?

(Anyone with pics of mounted gauges in their NA's please post them so I can get an idea of where good places are to mount them - I would go an A-Pillar mount but thats just screaming STEAL ME in an MX5 IMO).

Thanking yous!

The water temperature gauge basically sits at normal temperature until there is something to worry about, but by the time it starts looking bad, things are really bad. The OPG has a tendency to get innacurate as it gets a bit of age on it.
