Has anyone here got a Magnetic Oil Pan Plug?

Are these things a worthwhile purchase, or just a gimmic?

I got one. It fits nicelt and doesn't leak, which is the important thing.

It was the first optimistic purchase for \"one day i'm going turbo.\" Because metal bits in your turbo aren't advised...

I haven't done another oil change since, so I can't tell you if they actually do anything, I am skeptical at best, but it was $13 and worth the trial. I'll be sure to post up my findings, probably just after the road trip, so early January.

i got that one from ebay, well it's really another dignosis to pick up small metal bits if there is any in the oil. doesn't cost much so might as well, & the magnetism strength is rather good too.

so far no metal bits in my oil :)

Using Warpspeed's trick would work here as well I suppose. Just put your own magnets on the oil filter.

I'm not sure what kind of effects you'd get from having strong magnets that close to your injectors though, it might mess with the electrics.

Warpspeed - Do you just put the magnets on the head of the bolt and leave it there? Got any pics?

from what i understand, heat above 100 degrees will kill of the magnetic forces in a magnet, is yours still on your car warp?

These magnets are very strong in comparison to their mass, but are also mechanically fragile and the most powerful grades lose their magnetism at temperatures above 80 degrees Celsius.

you recon these will work on the oilfilter, in a similar way to filtermag?? My sump plug is the oil temp sender for my vdo gauge, so i cant get a magnet on that..
