Hi,
I know there is a lot of posts about this but I have not been able to find anything clear on the subject.

I have a 1990 imported NA6 Auto (no auto bashing pleeeease)

I am considering an option to transplant the whole drivetrain upto the Diff with a 1.8 & 5 speed when the 1.6 gets close to end of life.

Question:
Assuming I can get an entire engine & gearbox, what else do I need to consider in the change over. ie. Computer, radiators etc...

Also, does anyone have any idea what a good engine & gearbox is likely to cost and where can you get good ones ?

Thanks, rob.

Hi Rob,

Good to have met you on that lovely brisk evening, otherwise known at the first run of summer.

Not sure how many Ks your Mainer Blue has on the clock, but expect to get at least 250,000km from your engine.
There are a lot of other options that will increase the power of your current engine, such as cold air intake, exhaust system which would cost for a few hundred $ to $1.5k. Then there is replacing the ECU thereby allowing you to remove the restrictive Air Flow Meter and gives you more in the way of future upgrades, such as replcaing your camshafts and/or adding forced induction.

All of this depends on what you are looking to do with the car in the future?

Hi, was a great run down to Dromana, but pity about the cold breeze. I thoroughly enjoyed the drive and watching the turbo's blast into the distance.

Steve, I was worried about the wiring loom so glad you mentioned it.. Would be too nasty to tackle that one and then forever diagnosing wiring bugs...

This was a thought I had in mind and I just wanted to put it to bed. My motor still has a good 100,000k's in it yet by your reckoning and it seems to go very well despite the auto behind it.
