PWR Radiators...40 or 57mm?

Postby rjr666 » Wed Nov 15, 2006 4:09 pm

Decisions decisions...

cant decide if 40mm rad from pwr will be enough for my application. From what Ive been told that the alloy rads have far better cooling efficency and therefore going a 57mm is over kill.

Will be running a Large front mount intercooler, Air con condenser, in front of the radiator. I estimated the car will be making around 150rwkw-180rwkw, and used for track and hi reving appliactions :D

If running a 57mm, can i still use the exisiting fans and shrouds without the intercooler piping from the intercooler to the inlet manifold not foul?

If possible people with a pwr rad and turbo could post up a pic?

Thanks

I use a 40mm on my NA race car without a turbo, I am going to run a 57mm on the SE race car when it turns up from PWR. I've gone with the bigger is better principle. I've not yet heard of a turbo race car with too much cooling - especially with a big front mount. No idea about the factory fans - I'm going to run custom ones. 8)

57 mm is what I'd be suggesting if your going to be reving at 180 kW :)
I'm getting 220kW and the larger size is still getting warm after a spirited run.
The fans will fit, but you may need to put 10mm spacers (and longer bolts) as the boss's that PWR fit are a bit small. You could probably do it with washers to the same effect.

A bit exy but as CT says bigger is better

I spoke to PWR and asked what they recommended - they said to save the 57 for race cars, and use the 38 in a road car that's raced occasionally, as the 57 will require some good ducting work in order to be effective.
