Hey guys,

Thought this would be the place to ask - my brake pedal is practically dead, took my car to ABS thinking it was a master cylinder issue, but turns out my back calipers need fixing/replacing. They've quoted me around $300 all up to get it done in 1-2 days.

Just wondering if anyone here has replaced theirs before, and what the cost was?

Have the slider pins seized or have the pistons seized in the bores? $300 sounds cheap for 2 new brake calipers installed.

Seized slider pins are a fairly common complaint for cars that dont get their brakes serviced regularly. I dont think seized piston are as common but can happen if the piston dust seal failes or if the brakes aren't bled on a regular basis. One of my NA front brake pistons seized because the dust seal wasn't fitted properly allowing water to get in and rust the piston. A new piston and seals fixed it all up for about $60 from memory (excl labour)

Well to be honest, I don't know. My mechanical knowledge is rather limited heh :/ All I know is that they were leaking (one side worse than the other). I gave my father a call and he's gonna take a peak tomorrow as well. But if getting them fixed for $300 is pretty cheap, then great :) Thanks!

Leaking would indicate stuffed seals on the pistons
