Hey everyone,

I spent a couple hours today fitting the mania intake that i got. I Ran into a bit of trouble with the whiteline strut brace, it sat right in the way of where the intake had to go. I heard that a few people have had this problem..

I could have bent it up from underneath but that just looked lame, and it was still fowling a little on the brace..

The solution... I machined up a couple brackets to change the height of the strutbar, so the intake could sit straighter. It worked a treat, the strutbrace dosent fowl the bonnet from closing, and the mania intake now sits the way its supposed to...

Wouldn't that bracket pivot, negating any effect the brace would have? Oh and the intake looks hot!

might wanna put another bolt below the strut brace so it won't move around?

na na its all good, I worried about that.. but after fitting nylock nuts and doing it up nice and tight, there is no way in hell thats things pivoting..

I was about to say.....

Even done up tight comet, over time with the car bouncing around, it may work loose? mio's suggestion is pretty good! IMO anyway

I'd be inclined to make another bracket with 2 extra holes either side of the one that mounts to the brace to triangulate it, not movement then!

But like everyone else said Make a new bracket with 2 bolt mounting points. You may have done it up very very Tight but the small amount of flex at the shock tops ( IE less than 2mm ) the single bolt Just aint up to the Job

Regarding the brace, rotate the lot 180 deg and it should sit over the lower point of the intake, giving you more clearance. Then you can remove your extension brackets.

hey sab, yeah the tried turning the whole lot 180 but it was fowling worse on the filter than the pipe. So i left it that way, and installed the brackets.

My old man is going to try make up a new bracket in his workshop, but im not really fussed. Im sure im not going to feel the difference, its all placebo effect..

That looks great Ryan...just got to hide the wiper bottle! What's the bracket from the pod filter attached to, seems to be the engine...

yeah its attached to the engine as a quick fix, but im making up new brackets should be ready soon..

green_comet I'm surprised your whitline studbrace doesn't fit.

Mine fits......but i've just realised..... yours is a 1.8. mines a 1.6......maybe its because of the different size AFM meter?

looks like his has a longer section of carbon pipe going by the pics.

if your strut brace is just for blind bling factor leave it how you have it with the spacer.

if you want it to still perform its job then either weld the spacer to the top of the strut brace or make a new space that uses two holes.

even with those nuts done up to breaking point and backed off half a turn i would say the tension of the cars body flexing would push through it.. if not excess amounts atleast amounts that would lessen the already minor effects the strut brace would have.

none the less GW looks the ducks guts and i bet it sounds nice too

interesting that you say this. i remember glen73 telling me that his strut brace made a big difference to the rigidity of his car (a 1.6 na).

you think they don;t make much difference? i just bought one so i'm curious (haven't fitted it yet)
