as i type, i have a moss motors oil cooler and filter re-location kit on its way from the states. to go with this i am getting oil pressure, oil temp and water temp gauges. i would like to know:

* the internal dia of my radiator hose so i know which size sender tee to get.

* if anyone has installed the above mentioned kit (or similar) and how hard it was

* is there a spot on the sandwich plate for the oil temp and pres sensors to go, if not is there a place on the engine i can put them

* any other installation tips such as where to tap into for power etc for the gauges (thinking of putting on the drivers side pillar. anyone had success with this?? )

p.s all the guages are electronic an its all being put in a 98 mx5

Generally oil pressure guages are connected into where the standard oil pressure switch is, so saves on mucking around with trying to fit it elsewhere.

You can draw the power for the guages (I assume just to run the light) from the back of the dimmer switch. This way you can adjust the brightness of the guages. If you're looking for power to operate the guages, then you could source it from the cig lighter plug.

Well, I've only got an NA6 workshop manual here at the moment, but on those it is just above, and to the left of the oil filter. I would expect it to be the same on the 1.8, but maybe someone else can confirm.

As I recall the last time I had my paws in there, it is left of the oil filter for the 1.8 motor as well.

You will most likely need to remove the OEM oil sender and use the one that comes with your guage. As for oil temperature, you will probably need another sandwich plate unless the moss one has provisions for senders.

Mount the oil cooler 'nipples up'.

Stops all the oil draiing back into the engine.

This stops little things like crank slap on startup, and reduces dry running on startup whilst oil finds it's way through the pipes & cooler back to the donk.

The FM kit uses a thermostat but it appears the moss kit does not so this advice is good to heed.

thanks for all the help guys, the kit should be arriving this week hopefully, will let you no how it goes.
