Diff ratios

Just wondering what diff ratio a 94 Clubman came with and what gears are available to raise the ratio a bit.
Looking for something like a 3.7:1 or 3.9:1.
Need to lift it a bit as first gear is useless at the moment.
Thanks

4.1, same as every other 1.8 5-speed in Australia.
3.909 is rare is Aus but available from the US (6 speeds)
3.636 is the Aussie 6-speed diff ratio, might be pretty tall though.

Thanks matty,
3.9:1 would be great, might have to pickone up next time I am in the USA.
3.6:1 could work tho. The car is very torquey and can probably pull a ratio that tall. Currently it will rev limit 5th gear with the roof up.

Hello Blue94t, My 2cents worth is this, I think your Clubman would have a 4.1in it, unless a previous owner swapped it for a 4.3 ( from a 1.6 ) for increased acceleration. 4.1 is probably your best bet. Surely you could find an NA8 in a car yard somewhere near you, take it for a small drive and see how it compares with yours.. The 3.9 was fitted to some earlier RX7's and is certainly interchangeable with the NB8A ( which is what I have). The main drawback to moving to a 3.9 is that your speedo will show an inaccurate reading . The way to overcome that problem is with an electronic speed adjuster. I managed to get one from Drift Fury in Victoria. It'd be worth making sure that you could get one of these things BEFORE going to a 3.9 It wasn't particularly expensive but, if not for Drift Fury, seemingly impossible to find otherwise..! As for a 3.6, with a ' standard ' engine and 5 spd. box, a 3.6 is way, way too high and quite hopeless. Hope you find this helpfull. Cheers, slowpoke

Slowpoke,
StanTheMan is right, my car has quite a history and will have no issues at all pulling a 3.6:1 diff.
Looks like everyone knows my new toy.

If it's a 1.8LT then any of the Mazda crown wheel and pinnions will fit as long as they are the short nose type. I've got s/hand 3.63:1, 3.90:1 and 4.10:1

flycasta,
What do you want for the 3.63:1?
Don't happen to have a spare gearbox as well do you?
Thanks
Jake
