yay, free time & home alone so can work on the car in peace without having a dad nagging that i don't know anything about cars & am gonna stuff something up.

still gotta work something with the windshield washer bottle, think i'll buy a small replacement bottle instead though. havn't dríven yet but will do tonight when the air is cool

so is there going to be much of an issue with having the afm upside down? did so the cord will fit without having a severe bend in it.



looks like i'll eventually should get a gas bonnet lift strut too, the air tube infront is pushing on the rod, might one day make the plastic holder bit snap causing the rod to be pelted into the back of the headlight i guess.

i'd be looking at making a heat shield or insulating the intake from the exhuast manifold heat. shouldnt have any problems with melting plastic i wouldnt think but the cooler you can keep there air the better.

what AFM are you using? maybe you should keep an eye out for an rx7 one and upgrade? i have no idea if being upside down would matter.. havent looked inside an NA one

yeh i'm aware of the heat from the exhaust. got heat wrapping on the 4-2-1 extractors (don't know brand, probably just some cheapy exhaust shop one). original NA6 afm, don't want to muck around with tuning an RX-7 afm, least not at the moment.

took out the plastic surround under the bonnet around the headlight area, also eliminated the insultation taping that sits between the hood & firewall filling in a gap. so while driving forward the incoming air momentum pushes the hot air out this gap & exits infront the windscreen. only downfall is it makes the interior cooling fan less effective since it takes the air from there.

As for heat - I've been running a loch system for 6yrs now and never noticed any real heat issues - leave the heat shield on the exhaust, and paint the loch box with chrome paint.

and why is your AFM upside down????

don't really want to reuse the original washer bottle. drilling a 3\" hole was hard enough, no more drilling holes into my precious please... that said, i want to replace it with a small bottle, rectanglish & double sided taped to the airbox. i'm trying to find the drink bottle i had back in primary school, came in a rectangle decor lunch box, the one with slots inside where the bottle would be held in.

the afm is only upside down to make it easier on the afm wire cord. turned right side up & the wire will only just be able to connect but i don't like the look of the extreme bend on the wires at the connection. all of my little issues could have been avoided if i were able to get the Lochie intake for the 1.6 instead of modding a 1.8 version to fit a 1.6.

i don't have the oem extractors so the heatshield won't be able to be used anyway, don't have the heatshield either

oh well, drive it tonight & it's awesome snarly growl, kinda like half a oldish v8 sorta.

You can still use your washer bottle without drilling holes and hide it as well. If you look at the crossbeam in front of the radiator there are holes one of which has a 10MM nut welded to it. I used that as my main fixing point and the hole next to it on the left when facing the car. Had to make a bracket with a dog leg in it but wasn't hard. The bottle ends up out of sight with the filler cap under the bonnet lever. The bottom of the bottle hangs down in front of the radiator opening but I doubt if it will affect heating. You need to extend wires and water tube and hide under the mudguard. Paint the bottle matt black where it's visible from the front and you're done.
