ok, im having a bit of an issue with my charge warning light at the moment.
so i put in a new dash and all, and all is working fine,
the other day going to work i had a quick flash of the charge warning light as i topped out 2nd gear...
yesterday it was flashing on at high revs, ie, 5000rpm+ but off otherwise
today, it flashed on as i accelerated, went back off, took 2nd to redline, and now its on for good..
is it an earth or a new alternator?
everything else seems fine, car runs well, windows go up and down,
lights were a little weaker when the charge came on last night, but not too bad.
battery is very new, and the charge light has been on constantly for about 2 hours, how long should it last?

for us with a crap battery it lasted about 20mins driving with lights on.
I had this problem the whole way down to tassie from brissy... i knew what was causing it though.
For us:
On the side/rear on the alternator there is a thick wire leading to the alternator. Thats the + cable that leads to the battery. Find out if that is all intact.
On ours the nut had losen off and the cable kept disconecting. I then tried to tighten a new nut on which then snapped off the screw the nut went on resulting in now way to hold the cable in place.

hmmm thanks for the tip
that cable seems pretty tight..
might have to pull it all of tomorrow and clean it up.

Have you checked the alternator is charging or not when the charge light is on by checking the volts at the battery?

i also noticed that it would have sparks fly out a bit aswell at the connection.
Maybe pop the bonnet while its started and give it a rev... check if its sparking anywhere.

what a pain..
local auto elec said it was 100% alternator,
so they had a recoed laser unit, which appaered to be identical.
took it home, snapped my adjuster bolt,
and the laser alternator has the main wire connector facing out the back,
rather that facing the right which means its right near the engine mount and makes it near impossible to fit.
doh. so its going back tomorrow morning, and it may look like i miss out on wakefield
doh.
