If you wana beef it up definately do a cold air intake system and replace the exhaust/cat system. These two mods will get your MX feeling alot more free. Throttle response will be much more tight and accurate and it won't feel like a slug anymore.
All they are doing is making it easy for the engine to suck and spit out as much air/waste as possible. Imagine yourself trying to breathe through a straw compared to breathing through a piece of 3inch PVC piping. I hope that all makes sense
****I was dissappointed with the amount of power from the 1.6 as well

when I bought mine.

Hey Mikey. Be aware that an intake/exhaust kind of setup won' tbe massively faster than a standard car. You'll have maybe 10-15% more power, focussed on the top end.
minimum costs:
DIY cold air intake ~$150
mild steel cat-back exhaust ~$500
used extractors ~$300
from there, start adding bigger bucks for smaller gains.

Also advance your timing to 14 degrees.
And don't shift at anything under 4000 rpm
