Electrical Problems

Hi all,

Been having some electrical problems as of late. :?
The 'high beam on' indicator light that sits on the dash seems to come on and off intermittently. I later realised that it happens when you move the indicator/light switch around, something seems to be broken or loose or broken inside. Anyone had this problem before? Not really sure what its called but im assuming that the whole switcher section will need to be replaced, as it would be too fidly to fix whatever the problem is inside the unit. If thats the case, how difficult would it be to replace?

Also be having problems with my alarm, but thats another story, still covered by warranty.

My main concern is that my battery is dead, and more so then not requires a jump start from my protable jumpstarter. I want to replaced the battery but dont know if any of the problems that i am having are draining it. If that was the case, could this cause damage to my new battery, or significantly reduce its life? I really want to get a new battery, but dont untill i have fixed all the electrical problems, however its a pain driving around with a battery that is on its way out, so i would prefer to get one as soon as possible.

Thanks in advance for any help.

You'd need a ne switch assembly. Be sitting down when they tell you the cost. You'd have to disassemble the steering column covers and take the steering wheel off to get at it.

I doubt this switch is causing any battery problems but it should be replaced as well as the battery.

I got my new battery, that worked out fine.

With regards to the switcher, by the sounds of things, its going to cost an arm and a leg to fix such a simple little annoying problem. I wonder what i would be expecting to pay for a second hand unit? I might even give a go a fixing it myself, might as well if im taking it out. :?

I assume its not too hard taking it off?

Actually I have heard of a faulty light switch causing a flat battery. It's possible with a faulty switch for the headlights to come on while they are in the down position so you dont notice that they are on and the battery goes flat. I think from memoery lowmiata had this problem at one stage as well as a few guys in the US.

Ah yes, forgot about that  ............quite possible. Probably should have asked for other symptoms.

Well my brand new battery has gone flat after less than a day. Looks like its off the the auto electrician for me as im fairly certain that this problem is with my alarm. Although i will be looking to get the switcher problem fix too. I have had shocking luck with cars and electrical problems.

Im curious too, thought im afraid to get a quote. :? Again i stress how little yet annoying this problem is, assuming its not the cause of the flat battery.
