Power cuts out for a moment

hey there
under heavy accel the car seems to miss at around the same RPM each gear..
havent gone through all the gears as its rather high in the rpm, but it feels much the same as the rev limiter only its down around 4 to 5 thou??
anyone got any ideas where i should start?
fuel leads plugs???
leads and plugs are fairly new

Ignition fault most likely. A few possible causes. Crank angle sensor could be faulty. Some wiring somewhere may be loose. A coil could be dying (common on NBs).

how do i check these things?
its stopped doing it today
so that leads me to think like you said loose wires or connections will have a look in the morning

You haven't got an SE hidden under that gold skin have you? That sounds like the optional SE 4k rpm power loss feature, which I had the foresight to have fitted when purchasing mine. A lot of US mazdaspeed MX-5's have the same problem. Mine seems to be ECU related, has occured maybe 5 or 6 times in the last 35,000 km and always fixes itself after stopping with the for a few minutes.

was thinking of upgrading the ECU would love an excuse

theres looking on the bright side of things for... just dont think about numbers

and no theres not an SE under their.... yet

When the occasional miss happened to me it got worse over the following week and eventually the car ran dreadfully. It was plug leads.

had a fiddle with plug leads and connections on the AFM and it seems to be ok.. see what happens i guess
