Your thoughts on petrol types?

What are your thoughts on the best petrol to run my 02 NB8B on?
The car is stock standard & has done 29000ks - 7000 of them in the last 4 months since I bought her home to Qld.
It's my daily drive and gets a short run on the highway a couple of times a week (more if I can manage it). She plays in the country as often as possible (every couple of weeks?), otherwise it's a 15-20min drive to work & back each day.
The only services she is going to have are going to be the standard services & will probably be done by Mazda.
I guess I'm looking for something that will help her perform as intended and look after her needs. I am not too concerned with k's per tank?
Between Optimax, Optimax 98, Ultimate etc there are too many choices for this poor girl
Thoughts?

i think you will find that most of the people here will tell you to stick with Ultimate or Optimax.
Most will favour one or the other but both are as good as eachother.

All the premium unleaded out there is at least 95RON which is the minimum required for an NB8B. Ultimate, Optimax 98 and the various other '98's out there are higher octane fuels, and I think you'll find that most owners are using these in preference to 95RON fuels. As I run an SP I don't get the choice, 98 minimum for me... BTW I mostly use Caltex 98 as I have limited access to BP or Shell stations (plus they are generally dearer) and I haven't noticed any difference.

You are wasting your money if you use anything other than 95 in a standard car driving the way you drive.

Ok thanks guys - thought normal petrol was ok but just wanted to check.

Whoops, maybe you misunderstood "normal" standard 91-93 RON unleaded is not recommended for your car, but "normal" premium 95 RON is OK. 98 RON is the Optimax/Ultimate, and isn't neccessary.

Yep, that's right. You need to buy at least the premium, but not the extra premium.

OK - light coloured hair removed now...
(no offence to those with permanent light coloured hair)
The \"premium & extra premium\" I get but lose it in the translation with the \"91 - 93 - 95- 98 RON\" stuff so thanks for setting me straight!

If you love your car you'll run
Shell \"Optimax\" or BP \"Ultimate\"
If you like your car you'll run
unleaded petrol from any petrol station that is labeled \"premium\"
If you don't care about your car you'll buy the cheapest nastiest petrol save a few dollars and eventually you're car will develop a nasty ping.

So is Caltex Vortex comparable with Shell Optimax or BP Ultimate?

There is Caltex Vortex and then Caltex Vortex 98. The Vortex is comparable to BP Premium and Sheel Premium.
The Caltex Vortex 98 is comparable to BP Ultimate and Shell Optimax.

I use Ultimate, I've found the car gets greater fuel economy on Ultimate than Optimax, haven't ever used any other type of fuel in it.
