Question for a Turbo Guru

Do ya reckon this would be too big on an SE? Lookin' for response more than outright power.

I know I'll need a manifold, an external wastegate and larger injectors.

The driving light's already popped from all the pressure.

hehehe MOFO's!

I work with the guy selling it and his offer is well below that on ebay.

After lookin' into it a bit more it's gonna mean a hell of a lot of changes to what I've already got and it requires an external wastegate so........

I think tyres and seats will come well before a mod like this and maybe even a bit of driving skill!

Hi ASEO5,

The parts below where available a couple of weeks back and previously fitted to an SE. If you are interested let me know and I can see if I can get a phone number for you. The parts where in Sydney and there where also two sets of forged pistons and other bits and pieces.

Ø Garrett GT28 400hp Hybrid turbo $1000

Ø Genuine SP Mazda turbo manifold $500

Ø Genuine SP Mazda dump $200

Everyone loves a comedian! I reckon I'd have a few issues with fitment and spool up on that lil puppy! Mind you, if I was to up the compression a little........

Hmmmmm, could be interested. PM me with the details if ya can.

On a side note, the guy at work brought the turbo in for me to look at today and, well, ummmm, arrrgghhh, it's toooooooo f*ckin' big!!!!!! I know there have been a lot of advances in turbo technology over the last few years but I still think he's dreaming if that thing'd make boost on a 1.8 before 5000+rpm. Still if anyone is keen for another project, he's offered it to me for $1000!

I would say it's a bit of the big side. Would be built for outright grunt being T3 based rather than more response like the GT25/GT28 T2 based stuff.

With SE/SP or any stock engine, no real point getting a turbo designed for more than 300-320hp.. below this eg 250hp, and the 400hp type turbos are prob more laggy if you are running around 8-10psi.

GT28RS would be a very nice option if you run 12-18psi

Generally most T3-flanged turbos are going to be too big. Don't even think about a T4. :) The T3 super 60 + .48AR is a popular pick for miata.net'ers but generally people get the GT28 and stick with that. If I were turbo shopping, that'd probably be my pick also.

Before you go mucking around need to check out.

MX5mania for the SP motorsport kit.

http://www.bellengineering.net/

http://www.flyinmiata.com/

They make some great stuff for the Mazdaspeed(SE)..Flyin Miata do an exchange turbo.

Hmmm.

Boyracer: Yeah, I've seen the upgrade that Flyin Miata do and it's real tempting and extra 50hp wouldn't go astray! Sounds like they do a real good product too with lotsa support.

Sabre: Yup, the GT28 is sitting right at the top of the list too but that means manifolds and the sort to finish it off. I've been enjoying the bolt on nature of what I've done so far. I don't trust mechanics, simple.

Warpseed: Damn, something else to look at!

I only got interested in swapping/changing turbos after this one was offered to me cheap. No real rush to change anything just yet, getting ideas for the moment.

I had it back down to Chiptorque and they've fixed a few things that were erking me and the response has improved down low somewhat but it seems to have lost a bit of oomph up top. Bit early to judge as I drove straight from Chiptorque to home and aint touched her since. I guess I find out tomorrow @ QR....damn I'm excited!
