I have a whirring noise that i imagine is the clutch as it dissapears when i push the clutch in, is it a bearing that needs replacing?

From past experience, i had this issue in my Nissan Silvia. It's a bearing in the gearbox, I don't want to make a fool of myself and guess which one though.

I had a squeeky/whirry noise that stopped when I just gently rested my foot on the clutch. What it ended up being was noise from the loose contact between clutch slave cylinder push rod and the lever it pushes on. A good gob of grease between them quitened it for me . . .

A little bit of whir from the gearbox in neutral is perfectly normal. It's just the input shaft spinning. A lot of wiring could be a noisy input shaft bearing. Try to have a listen to some other MX5's and compare them to yours.
