Intermittant idle speed problem.

Hi,
If the cars in neutral and I let the clutch out the revs jump up to around 1500rpm. I can hear a switch clicking on the clutch pedal that tells the computer that the clutch is either in/out for whatever reason, but no idea why it's making my revs jump up intermittantly!
I've had the AFM, Throttle body, egr, idle all cleaned and it goes even harder now so I'm kinda stumped why it's doing what it's doing. Seems more prevalent when cold too although it throws no error codes so all seems well. Thoughts?

What is the RPM with the clutch pedal depressed?

About 850-900...normal spec. It's almost like it thinks the air con is on and is bumping the rpms to counteract it!

I see what you mean Craig......weird......smells of some crazy ECU problem.
Is it possible to disconnect the plugs from the clutch pedal switch(es) and see what happens then?

I could but I guess Mazda built it in for some reason.

A neutral switch eh?

Well that would explain why it's clutch related and only happens intermittantly, as some days it's perfect, and the next day it plays up. How was it diagnosed and fixed and by whom?
Craig
P.S. Where is it and how much $$$ to replace?

I thought the NB had some switches activated by the clutch pedal and one of them was called a neutral switch. Have a look
here and see the post by Bill Strohm.
Can you get under the dash area and press the plunger on any clutch activated switches there to replicate the clutch pedal being depressed and see if the idle RPM drops?

Yeh there's one on the gearbox and two on the clutch pedal, which is clutch in/out and the other ones a cruise control cut out. Oddly enough the cruise control sometimes wants to work too so might just buy all 3 switches and be done with it.
Thanks guys!

The gearbox one might just be the reverse switch.

For the NA8. Should be similar for NB.

That's the sucker. I wonder if you replace it from the top (remove gearstick and surrounds) or it's a reach up from underneath jobbie?

Bugger, means getting underneath the car! Oh well time to ring up for some prices for the switches.
