Do you have an NA or NB?
if you have a NB that is not the air filter

you pretty much got it. take out all the screws, lift up the airbox lid with airflow metre attached, slide old filter out then slide in new filter. close lid & put the screws back in.
the length of the airflowmetre cord limits how far you can raise the lid, you could disconnect the cord also if you want. the connector on the cord has a thin metal clip that holds it to the connector on the airflowmetre that needs to be pried out on the side before you can disconnect the cord.
just make sure not to unscrew the screws that holds the connector on the airflowmetre itself.

With regards to the oil filter, I'd say it's on too tight. Mine comes off with a bit of force. I also lubricate the seal of the new filter with a bit of engine oil for the next change.

You're right, stuff all room and putting it on a hoist won't help much either. The easiest access seems to be through the right wheel well after taking off the front right wheel. Works fine if you put the oil filter on "hand tight".

btw I'm using Castrol Magnatec 10w-40

I might have small hands. I tend to go in under the alternator, and get enough access to remove it that way.
Yep, using Castrol Magnatec 10w-40 as well. Put it in on the weekend

Good to see people asking questions - as opposed to the usual trick of people unscrewing at the AFM plug and breaking the wires.

As long as you lube the oil filter seal properly you should be able to get it off no worries. I've always put my filters on all my cars way tighter than recommended and they always come off easy.
BTW, I switched from Motul to Penrite Sin 5W60 about 6 months ago, even after 4000kms the oil still looks like honey.

Isn't that bad? I thought it was good for the oil to be discoloured after a while. That means that it's cleaning all the crap from the engine.

Oil goes brown because it becomes contaminated (hence the reason why you change it).
If you've ever owned a high boost car (25+psi) then you'll notice how quickly the oil goes black.

ahh, the fun of changeing the most stupidly located thing i have ever had the misfortune to try and undo on a car. two people makes the job so much easier. one under the car and one over.
i ended up with a 3 jawed socket thingy to undo mine, my dad holding it in place while did nice little 50mm levers on the socket handle. 30,000 levers later an the thing finally came off.
scary thing is, i'm willing to do it all over again. it's all part of the fun
