Adjusting brake pedal for heal/toe (NA)
Posted: Wed May 31, 2006 6:07 pm
After discussion about whether it can be done or not i though ide go out and check for myself... the result = perfect heal/toe
Please note that all this is doing is adjusting where the pedal sits before you push it in, your not adjusting anything to do with with when it starts braking. The only difference you will notice is that you can heal/toe with ease!
Tools
14mm spanner and socket wrench
17mm open spanner
Long nose pliers
Phillips head screw driver
Torch
Remove the drivers seat(dont forget about speaker wire connections) and the cover directly under the steering wheel
*Seat is held on by 4 x 14mm bolts
*cover held on by 2 x phillips screws
Get yourself into position (it is tight) so you can see the brake pedal and all its surroundings...
locate - Brake pedal rod (the flat steel thing that has the pedal on one side and connects to a pivot point on the top)
Brake light switch
Master Cylinder rod the rod that connects to brake pedal and gets pushed in.
Brake pedal spring (above brake light switch)
-First remove the spring, use your long nose pliers and aim for the side not connected to the brake pedal.
-on the brake pedal, opposite side of the light switch you will see it connects to a rod that pushes into the master cylinder, remove the pin and bar that connects it to each other.
-you have to remove the nut & bolt that the pedal pivots on (its at the top of the brake pedal)
Now the brake pedal can be pulled out... hopefully
at the brake master cylinder rod it has 1 nut and the connecter that connects to the brake pedal...
losen the back nut (14mm) then scew in the connecter (to adjust the height of the pedal), i did 6 turns in and its perfect.
Replace the brake pedal and its assembly.
Remember to tighten the back nut on the master cyclinder rod.
Dont forget the srping!.
Once thats done you have to adjust your brake light switch.
loosen the nut on the switch side (17mm), remove the wire connection.
And screw in untill in the optimal position.
Tighten back up the 17mm and connect the wires.
Replace your seat and the cover and your done.
All this took me 35mins, 1st time attempt not knowing what im doing.
Hope the write up isnt too confussing, im not very good at explaining things
