Looking at manias website I see several different options and i am insterested in knowing the effectiveness of each. I am looking for some increase in power or response together with a deeper note to my engine, at a minimal cost.

so what are your thoughts?


1. CAI - Mania Cold Air Intake
Utilises the high pressure area at the base of the windscreen to reduce intake temperature and vacuum, increasing power and torque. Gives a deep, rich induction note.

The largest available MX-5 intake. Improves power and torque. Comes complete with water redirection piping, connection hardware, silicone adaptors, clamps and hoses. Can be combined with Mania Cold Air Intake.

Start with the Mania CAI, I have just fitted the Loch Stewart CAI ( much like Manias one ) and the best bang for buck there is. You will get what you are looking for if you can stand the sound of the firewall being cut.

Oh and those 'enlarged intake systems' are total BS unless you get them properly insulated or they are made out of something that doesn't have 'heat transfer' as one of it's more pronounced properties.....

I have the Mania one in my car. You'll be really happy with its intake noise and performance gains over a stock setup.

I previously had made up the dunny pipe intake and it worked ok except for a few rattles and vibration noises.

If you don't mind spending the money, and want something that looks great, then go for the Mainia CAI.

Does anyone know the 'name' or 'brand' of the CAI that looks like a snorkle (well scoop) that sits above the bonnet line and bellow the wiper blades and funnels air possibly into a Loch Stewart or silmilar intake..

Any CAI will offer improved performance over the factory intake. Whether someone chooses to spend $60 or $600 on their intake, they will be getting pretty much the same function.

The difference in price only refers to a preference in aesthetics.

Funny ad that Sportsmart one. The old guy is probably loaded anyway, so he probably couldn't give a sh!t.

I wouldn't go as far as saying that "Any CAI will offer improved performance" but would say most will. Have seen some pretty dodgy home made setups in the past.

Ben, I suppose it all comes down to what you can afford, are prepared to spend and what your tastes are. Some people want to let their cars look good, others prefer function despite the look. Some prefer the looks and the function. It all about what you want.

In my opinion, the $250 Mania one is worth its money if you want to spend it. I'm sure others with the Mania intake would agree.

is it by Japanese brand AUTOEXE?

My full mania system is great, would never trade it for a home made one.....except for the one the Sab constructed which is similar to the mania system.

Hmmmm, but what about the heat coming off the bonnet?

Would heat from the bonnet be transfered as hot air into the intake?

wouldnt think heat soak would be too much of an issue as far as off the bonnet goes. more the fact that the filtter and piping is right above the exhaust manifold...
such is life witha hot side intake though.
