Well today I got some time off to try and install my electronic boot release.

I used Fig's instructions from this page .

I thought i'd test to see if the pulse was strong enough for the actuator instead of wiring in a relay, so I connected the wires and pressed the 3rd button on my keyring.

Now my central locking wont work.

The alarm siren doesn't sound.

If I try and turn it off/on at the siren it doesn't make the usual chirp sound.

If I turn the alarm on, the indicators flash and the car arms itself (but wont lock the doors).

If I trigger the alarm it flashes the indicators.

The Microwave Sensor still triggers the alarm.

When I disarm the alarm the indicators flash about 4 times (but dont unlock the doors).

The 10 Amp \"door\" fuse looks ok and i've tested it with another fuse.

I have tried disconnecting the battery for 30 seconds to try and reset it.

Any other fuses/relays I should be testing?

Any advice?

Perhaps i've fried this ..


The workshop manual doesn't say where the control module is located.

Am I correct in assuming it's under almost directly under the steering column as you look from under the dash.

With \"Lucas 19A5\" written on it?

There's a \"Door Lock and Timer Unit\" P/N B6A62830 $240.

But perhaps the issue is more to do with the Mazda alarm because the siren won't chirp or sound at all.

This is the diagram but I can't tell where it is meant to be under the dash.

FIXED IT !!! found a blown 7.5 fuse!

Cheap solution, thank god for fuses!

I guess i'm going to test the wire and retry with a relay.

Ok it was the right wire (thanks Fig) 12.3v burst, I guess i'll try with a relay like I should have done to begin with.

I'll do an \"update\" tomorrow if I get more time.

Have you worked out how to connect the solenoid to the boot latch

Atleast the battery is is nice and close allowing you to test it quickly

Dave..I was pulling apart the SE yesterday and noticed that relay...it's on the passenger side,if you pull out the glove box it is right in your face.

This will stop you blowing the 7.5A fuse - those relays can pull current >10A - that 7.5A rail isn't design for that sort of load.

This assumes that the black + dotted red/brown wire puts out 12v when active. If not, then nothing will happen.
