Does the gear knob just screw off?
Or is there a lock nut under the boot I need to loosen off first?
I have just bought a Voodoo Gaer knob...

Turn anti-clockwise as hard as possile. You'll hear a 'click'. That's just the glue (or similar) breaking. Screw it off and screw the new one on! :)

Where did you get your Voodoo knob? Was it the one from eBay?
They don't seem to make'em anymore, and Mania have sold all theirs.

if u have the factory rubber ones then it's screw off.

if u have a nardi (eg some Jap import) then there is a nut at the bottom.

I'd be interested to see the weight of an aftermarket knob.

I was surprised at how heavy the factory NA knob is - I assume it is there to give the gearshift a bit more momentum between gears and improve the feel of the shift.

Thanks dudes.
I bought the one off E-bay.
Cost too much I know - but its the first day of my holidays!
Crazy Red still sell em: http://www.crazyred.com/cri/pages/voodoo.html
Weight of Voodoo knob is 190g. Original knob weighs 145, so similar.
I am a pudden, so weight of car is no issue.
My weight is more of a problem

Voodoo Knob to be a 1-7/8 inch sphere of alloy, which gives it a weight of approximately 145 grams. This weight compares favorably with the OEM knob's 190 grams and, consequently, little vibration reaches the hand."

I think Red63sprint has it around the wrong way

I did have it the wrong way around - how does that work - a block of aluminium weigh less than plastic????

But Crazy Red says:

Bob tells it like this...

\"Originally, my intent was to simply make a shift knob for myself that met my needs... a spherical shape, custom fit to the Miata, and a weight at least somewhat in line with that of the OEM knob. The weight is important because the shift knob being too light causes a lot of gearbox vibration to be passed to the hand, and most people find that objectionable. So I designed the Voodoo Knob to be a 1-7/8 inch sphere of alloy, which gives it a weight of approximately 145 grams. This weight compares favorably with the OEM knob's 190 grams and, consequently, little vibration reaches the hand.\"
