Hey All,

I've got a Moss (MiataMania) Short Shifter Kit in my 5 Speed NA, just wondering are you able to remove and reused them after they have been installed? Also is there a difference from a 5 Speed kit and a 6 Speed?
Just wondering as I'm changing gear box and wondering if I can still use my existing kit.....

Regards
Rod.

Yes, re-use in a 5sp no worries. Not sure about transfer-ability to a 6sp though. I'd would have though not as they are slightly different in the upper housing. I'm sure someone has probably tried. 8)

Roderic,
Sorry to be slightly OT but I watched your new driveline getting loaded onto the truck this afternoon. Lucky Bastard!

Best of luck mate...

Cheers,
T

cant change from 5spd to 6spd
unless you get a dowel grove cut into the other side of the shifter

ie 6spder has two dowel pins
5spder has only one :D

I've had mine in for a couple of weeks now. Bought a used one of eBay some months ago. It shortens the throw quite a lot but also takes some more effort to move between gears. Overall I am happy with it. The hardest part of the change over was removing the smaller rubber boot to be able to reuse it again.

The box didn't have any name on the outside and the instructions are in Japanese. So I have no idea what it is. Sorry to be of no help.:)

I just fitted one of these E Bay short shifters to my SP ($86 including postage ). Its not truely universal as advertised as for the NB8B six-speed you have to cut/file a second groove for the second pin 180 degrees from the one already cut. No big deal - its only aluminium. The small boot is optional, but I fitted a new one from Ford (Laser).

Also, the nylon selector bush is a bit smaller then the NB8B one, and the short shift selector ball is also a bit smaller in diameter then that of the NB8B so you can't just swap the bushes over. As a temporary fix Russ built up the short shift ball with a few layers of heatshrink to fit the factory selector bush, but we will be machining a new bush from nylon shortly.

Takes a bit of geting used to the extra effort required, but I am really enjoying the feel of the short shift.
