Only the NA6 models (1989-1993) seem to suffer diff problems.

Road MX5s won't require it with the 1.8 diff. Race cars do but we run spools to overcome that problem. The 1.6 diff breaks because it's physically too small.

Torque Sensing LSDs were available on the 1800 MX5's and are standard on the Clubman, 10AE and SE versions. Many TorSens have been retrofitted to open diff 1800s (a straight swap) or into 1600s with new diff housing and half shafts.

The 1600 was available overseas with a viscous LSD but was never offered in Australia. Many Eunos Roadsters (grey imports) will have one and a number have been retrofitted to Aust delivered cars. There was also a Mazdaspeed clutch style LSD available overseas.

Edit - All manual NCs have a TorSen and the autos have an open diff.
