Hey, has anybody done this to an NB yet? Thinking about getting air conditioning for the old girl, just wondering whether its a big job or a big job? Any pointers would help. Beer would help more.

Modern cars are set up to have A/C so all the hard work is done. It's just a matter of bolting up the parts. If you were good with Mechano sets when you were a kid then you'd have no problem. If you're buying a new kit from Mazda it will come with step by step instructions so detailed that it even tells you which bolt to use where. If you are installing a used kit it's a good idea to have another car there as well to check how everything fits. Allow your self plenty of time. It takes forever to do the first one, but only a few hours to do the second.

Before you start make sure you find someone who will gas up the system for you after you've installed it. It's actually against the law for a non certified A/C person to install A/C and the guy gassing up the system could loose his licence if he got busted. I've had problems in the past with systems I have installed so I dont do it any more.

It's pretty easy, did an A/C unit in a mates Clubman, all wiring etc is all there, so just a matter of bolting the units in. The only real prob I had was the unit under the dash (real bugger to twist in ). All-in-all not a bad experience.

PS If you get a second hand unit from Mania, just ask that they double/triple check all the components are there before sending it out, and that the A/C lines are not kinked! This will save you pulling your hair out!
