I think they are all the same HMM(scratces head for a bit) Hmm
Yep both 1.6(B6) and the 1.8 (BP) use the same sensor disc
I have disc that only have one hole on the inner ( made for my autronic conversion)

The sensors are the same as far as I can test
What is your problem?

OK today in an atempt to fit my Autronic I pulled my 1.8 cas out
and low and behold the 1.8 and 1.6 trigger systems are differant
the 1.8 has a chopper type wheel and the 1.6 has a disc

Like a 4 spoked wheel for want of a better description. 1.8 one is magnetic, the 1.6 one is hall effect (from memory). They are different but interchangeable. I rebuilt a 1.8 one today only for it not to work  . Anyway, you can buy new modules for them and the 1.6, 1.8 and GTX ones are all different. I think the GTX one is next on my list to try. 8)

Warpspeed are you fitting an Autronic to you car ?
and if so what model (NA6 or NA8 )
If using the Autronic you dont have to modifiy any sensors
but you have to set the MODE FLAG 13 to 64 Mitshubish trigger
and the off set to 79Deg
for my car i made a lug and play adaptor so if any thing goes wrong I can stick the STD Comp back in

need any help with Autronic you can contact me any time

They are a lovely Computer and Very easy to understand
If you go for Four coils then you wont have to change any thing
just the computer setting
I see were you are coming from now
you want to pisss off the dizzy and fit a CAS
either CAS will work fine may have to tweek the Offset number so timing matches thats about all

CAS

tHERE ARE TWO TYPES = OPTical and Hall sensor. My 92 is optical, mates 94 NB is hall. Externally same, internally different.

Optical and Hall effect are distinctly different animals, the later magnetic based unit is a Hall effect technology--the optical interrupter early unit is not.

The cam angle sensor was changed from an optical type to a magnetic type when the 1.8 was introduced.

The cam drive and mount is the same from 1990-1997 and the signals are compatible so they interchange

Starting in 1999 the cam angle sensor is gone and replaced with a crank angle sensor mounted behind the crank pulley. The camshaft drive and CAS mount are still there so the sensor can be retofitted for the purposes of a 99-05 engine swap into an earlier car.

The optical unit reads holes punched in a disk while the later unit is magnetic based. In theory the later style is more accurate and offers potentially less spark scatter. Without removing the rear cover they can be recognised by the optical has a flat rear cover and the magnetic has a convex rear cover.

In an MX% the ignition trigger signal rises 70 deg before each TDC (the 4 equal holes) and uses the other two to determine cylinders #1/4 and #2/3 (the primary and waste spark).
